This often causes difficulties when a company intends to use a collaboration chance. This paper has demonstrated that introducing the time-base concepts is effective for managing the collaboration strategy selection of pharmaceutical companies. The model presented here reflects the best practices of collaboration strategies applied by successful Japanese pharmaceutical companies. Case studies of Japanese pharmaceutical companies showing the best practices provide useful information on how to make effective decisions regarding collaboration strategies.
